A few of Galati

Here are a few shots of the way I walk to and from the center each day. The stairway is pretty steep...thankfully I haven't tripped or slid yet. I don't know how the elderly do it...I've had women stop me on their way up it and say: forte greu (very difficult).

Cute Stove

This is our very cute stove...

Haircuts

For several weeks now I've thought about getting a haircut. I have been, however, hesitant to do so here in Galati. In the end I decided to do it myself. I used to cut my own hair all the time...
Well, it's been almost 8 months since my last haircut, so the length was getting, um, long. I do my bangs all the time, but decided I wanted more bangs. Which needed to be balanced with some fringe on the side.
I cut the fringe first. And then did the thicker bang. The bangs turned out, the fringe did not. It's pretty bad. I was able to do a decent job on the length...without a mirror to see how it was going in the back!
Anyway, I really didn't think anyone would notice, but lots of the kids did. One said to me twice, "Tuns?" Which means 'haircut.' The second time when I said yes he said: misto...which is Roma for cool. And when I told another girl that I did the cut myself she said "No cred...misto." Which means, I don't believe it...it's too cool.
Still, I've decided to just let the fringe grow back instead of trying to get it fixed. That way I can just get it fixed when I go home for my visit to the states in February (I hope).

6 months

I left the states 6 months ago yesterday. Hard to believe. Friends took me out for a drink to celebrate and I said: can you drive me to the airport so I can go home (to the states) when we're done?

It's been a full 6 months...full of joy and peace and frustration and displacement and feasting and laughing and loving and praying and hoping and fear and struggling and wondering and learning and giving and tears.

And none of it is what I thought it would be. I'm not exactly okay with that, but I'm trying to be. I'm praying that I will be. As I read in my Bible this morning and then a little of Amy Carmichael, I heard plainly that the will of God for me is that I pray and then continue in prayer.

It isn't what I expected. Maybe it never is, but I know that His way is the one of Love, for He is Love. I hope, in the end, that the unexpected ends in love.

Camp: Getting There

We spent last week in Lepsa at summer camp. Here are some photos of the bus ride there...I love the one of the kid reading Wendell Berry. We're starting them early.
